full detail and paint correction on a Volkswagen R32

Finally, Gemstone Detail gets their hands on Volkswagen's American race car, the R32. This vehicle comes equipped with a 6 speed 250 hp transmission, dual exhaust, and all wheel drive, all wrapped in a beautiful tornado red.

When the car arrived at the shop, from a distance, the paint looked to be in great shape.



I always start with the wheels first. The wheels were covered in your typical road grime.



Here, I have the wheel cleaner doing work, while my other "secret cleaner" works on the tires and wheel wells.



Much better.



Next was the wash, and before each wash, I like to go around the entire vehicle with an air gun to make sure I get rid of any stray leaves and such in tight areas.



After the wash was the claying process. You have no idea what contaminants are hiding in your paint until you clay it!



Okay. All washed, clayed, and dried. I'm all done now. I can go home, right? WRONG!



Here is the main reason the owner came to Gemstone. The entire vehicle was covered in swirl marks, destroying the beauty of the R32. Swirl marks come from improper drying and automatic car washes. Go check your paint. Chances are it looks just like this picture.



Before I decide what polish and pad to use, I first do a test spot. Here, I have one side of the door polished and the other side is untreated. Look at the difference!



After the polishing was done, I gave the car yet another wash, then moved onto the engine bay.

The engine is neatly organized under the hood. Pure German technology at its best right here. As the following pictures show, the engine is covered in dirt, dust, grease, and tar.

It was raining outside so I couldn't get a great shot of the paint. But trust me, all the swirls have been permanently removed. Apart from the polish, the entire vehicle was sealed, waxed, then treated with a non-static spray wax to keep dust from sticking to the paint.

I forgot to grab a few before shots of the interior but it wasn't too bad. Here's the final result.

full detail on a Toyota Rav4

I had the pleasure of detailing this customer's car last summer and I am glad they called again to do it this spring. Since the customer lives in Tewksbury, they decided to take full advantage of Gemstone's mobile service. There is nothing better for a mobile detailer than showing up to a customer's house and they have a garage to work in, running hot water, and a Craftsman vacuum!

The exterior looked like it had a harsh winter. The paint was covered in salt and sand from plows.

The paint was also covered in tar spots and various road debris. Here, you can see why we call it "road film"!



The door jambs were filled with dirt and sand. Tar gets in here too somehow! I am a huge door jamb guy and hate to see them in this condition.



The passenger's side floor mat had a nasty stain on it. We'll take care of this.



The ceiling had a few scuff marks and stains from putting some big objects in the trunk.

full detail on a Cadillac DTS

Always a pleasure to detail a Cadillac. Beautiful car both in and out and drives like a dream. Now, on the with the show...

When the car came to the shop, it was pretty dirty on the outside. The wheels were soiled with road grime and the sides had quite a few tar spots. Overall though, the paint was in pretty good condition.



The floor mats were in pretty good condition. A nice shampoo couldn't hurt though!



However, the actaul carpets were another story. If I had to guess, coffee is the culprit here. The driver's side is shown here.

Like I said before, all the floor mats needed was a little TLC.



Backseat floor mats were also shampooed. Notice the leather seats? They were all lightly conditioned, of course.

A liquid wax was applied to the paint followed by a non static wax. This allows no dust to stick to the paint and also adds a bit more gloss. A coconut based oil dressing was applied to the tires. The interior was sprayed with a rich leather scent.

interior detail on a Ford Focus

Getting into these tight areas can be tough. Leave it to the pros!



Obviously, this interior had been neglected for quite sometime. The carpets had large, dark dirt stains. The driver's side is shown here.



The middle console had a lot of "goo" on it. That's the only word to describe it!

All tight areas cleaned up! All door jambs cleaned and dressed.



Carpets were shampooed. A major improvement!



The middle console and dashboard were cleaned with a mild soap, then dressed.



I decided to go with a glossy finish to bring out the black in the dash.

The interior of this vehicle had been neglected for some time, maybe since last Fall judging by the leaves!



The door jambs were covered in tar, grease, and dirt.



The middle console was covered in coffee, dust, and other various stains.



The back was in similar condition...



~AFTER SHOTS~

Carpets were shampooed and since the customer described a foul smell with unknown wherabouts, the carpets were also deoderized with an apple scent. The foul smell has disappeared!



All door jambs were cleaned then sealed with a spray wax.



The middle console, along with the rest of the dash, was first cleaned with a mild soap then dressed with a matte finish by owner's request. A matte finish leaves your dash looking natural not glossy.



The back was given the similar treatment as the front.
